From the same people who own Bar Caloura, I think has to be one of my favourite restaurants on the island for meat, specifically steaks. The wonderful food is well matched by the ambiance and staff. What you get here is simply the best selection of meat on the island. A firm favourite so make sure this is on your list for a visit. Reservations essential Google Maps

Restaurante da Associacao This is a very nice restaurant but it is out of town, so assuming you have a car well worth a visit. Booking (especially at night and at week-ends is highly recommended Google Maps

Tony's Restaurant / O Vale das Furnas Tony’s Restaurant is one of the most well-known places to try "cozido das Furnas," roughly translated as food out of the volcano. And it really is from the depths of the earth! Worth booking a table in advance. Be warned: the plates of steaming meat and vegetables are enormous Google Maps

Big21 So the name sounds like some odd fast food joint, but don't let this put you off. This is a thoroughly modern, Portuguese restaurant. With everything from steak to vegetarian fare, this is a crowd-pleasing place. Modern, yet not fussy, it is the perfect place for a hearty dinner Google Maps

Supléxio This is the best burger place in town. A small, cool and hip restaurant this cuts back on the frills to focus on what they do best, and that is the burgers. Queues can get long at lunchtimes so go early or go a little later (after 2 pm) and the place is easier to get a table Google Maps

Taberna Açor Simple, delicious Azorean and Portuguese food. Should be on the list for any visit to Ponta Delgada Google Maps

Boca de Cena A one-man show restaurant. Well-liked by everyone. Small and cosy, well located in the town Google Maps

Michel Restaurant This is a cosy, family style and easy going restaurant. But don't let that fool you. This is high-end, well-cooked fare and a great place for dinner - Google Maps

Casa Do Bife O Galego Great location in town and the steaks are excellent! Well worth visiting but can get busy when a cruise ship is in town or at busy times so best to make a reservation Google Maps

27 TheTapRoom In the mood for some good 'ol USA. I know, I know you are in the Azores and you should be enjoying the local food. But still… And if you are hankering for that then there is no better place than 27 The Tap Room - Google Maps

Restaurante O Museu Unfussy, local fare served at this restaurant Google Maps

Calçada do Cais Perfectly located in the center of Ponta Delgada, this is modern Azorean / Portuguese inspired restaurant. Great service compliment fresh food and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Google Maps

Õtaka This is one of the highest rated restaurants in Sao Miguel. Japanese food with a price tag to match. For a special dinner this is one people like. Booking in advance for dinner is essential Google Maps

La Cantina Located on the marina, this is the best restaurant in the line of restaurants and is the one to visit. Frequented by both locals and tourists, they serve both pizza and sushi so everyone should be happy.Google Maps

Mané Cigano This is a local favorite where the food is cheap but locals love it and it is easy to see why when you eat here. With tasty and cheap dishes with friendly service, this is a great place to stop by if you fancy an unfussy meal Google Maps

À Terra Fornaria at Azor Hotel The restaurant at Ponta Delgada's best hotel is famous for its contemporary take on Azorean dishes and glorious marina views. Try the fresh succulent sardines baked in pastry with a cold glass of Azorean white wine Google Maps

A Tasca This is a favourite restaurant of tourists and well-heeled locals. Near Ponta Delgada Matriz church, this restaurant presents you the typical Azorean food. It can be difficult to find a table if you don't book it in advance Google Maps

Casa Marisca This is a tucked away local, family restaurant Popular with the locals at lunch, it may serve simple food, but it is nothing short of delicious Google Maps

Varandas Avenida Nice cafe in the center of town (close to the fort and Marina) where you can get a light lunch Google Maps

Sunset beach - Restaurant & Bar This is a local favourite. A simply stunning location right on the beach, friendly staff and both inside and outside dining areas. Steaks are reasonably priced and the wine menu is excellent. You really can't ask for more than that Google Maps

Resturante Cais 20 With everything from steak, fresh fish to vegetarian fare, this is a crowd-pleasing place. Modern, yet not fussy, it is the perfect place for a hearty lunch or dinner. Go for a window table overlooking the ocean Google Maps

Sabores da Vizinha WA charming restaurant located in Vila Franca. Wonderful local food and excellent service. Well worth eating here if you are in the area Google Maps

À Terra at Furnas Boutique Hotel This is a 40-minute drive here from Ponta Delgada. Try cheese from São Jorge, fish baked on hot stones, fresh and unusual salads or fantastic pizza straight from their wood-fired oven. Google Maps

Quinta dos Sabores Seek out this wonderful farm-to-table restaurant, where most of what is on the menu is grown or reared on site. Knock on the barn door and you'll be warmly greeted by hosts and owners Paulo and Inês. Expect a five-course tasting menu at a reasonable price. Terra Nostra Garden Restaurant For cozido das Furnas baked in the earth, book lunch at this Art Deco hotel restaurant with views across the botanical gardens Google Maps

Tuká Tulá - Bar With a backdrop to one of the longest beaches this bar is a firm favourite of locals and tourists alike Google Maps

Bar da Praia Beautiful view out over the ocean. Great for drinks and sun-downers. Gets very, very busy in the summer Google Maps

Restaurante Cervejaria O Carlos Local restaurants with local food. The simple decor lets the food shine. Google Maps

Restaurante O Silva A great restaurant in Riberia Grande and well worth visiting for dinner. Excellent food and wine complimented by service to match Google Maps

Restaurante AlcidesThis is a perfectly located resturant in town and well known for its steak. Excellent food for a reasonable price Google Maps

Chandelier Restaurante Bar A high end resturant with a modern feel that is more akin to Lisbon rather than Ponta Delgada. Friendly service makes this a popular place to eat and drink Google Maps

Singular Bistro Outdoor seating in a nice part of Ponta Delgada compliments a high end resturant indoors. Cocktails are excellent, food is great making this a place well worth visiting Google Maps


Fish

Restaurante Gastrónomo Well regarded local restaurant, focusing on fish. Great service and an unfussy decor make this a firm favourite Google Maps

Fish 22 Tucked away in a corner street, close to the center of town. Great value for money, as well as friendly staff and fresh fish each day. You could not ask for much more. Good for lunch and dinner (but be warned they close at at 20:00.) Google Maps

Mané Cigano If you're in Ponta Delgada for lunch, Mané Cigano is a must. A local favourite for traditional Azorean seafood. It's open for lunch, so get there early or jostle with the regulars for a table. Try the horse mackerel with beans Google Maps

Taberna Saca-Rolhas This is a cosy place right by the sea wall, serving some of the best fish in the Azores. It's a 10-minute drive from Ponta Delgada - or hike there along the cliffs to build up an appetite. Reservations necessary Google Maps

Bar Caloura Low-key bar for lunch or even better a G&T sundowner with dinner. This unassuming place is one of the best for fresh seafood lovers. It is what they do. Give the burgers a miss Google Maps

Restaurante Ponta do Garajau Tucked away in the quaint seaside town of Ribeira Quente. This restaurant is well known for its locally sourced seafood. The produce is all fresh, the service is excellent and the place is understandably busy a lot of the time Google Maps

Restaurante Borda D'Água Nice and quiet place, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of most of the island. Great seafood Google Maps

Botequim Acoriano A well known local restaurant on the island. Run by Al and his wife, who is the chef. This is a great place, best known for its fish Google Maps

Restaurante Borda D'Água This is a really nice restaurant located in the town of Lagoa. A local place where everyone is welcome and the food is good value Google Maps

Restaurante Mariserra This is a small, cosy place located in the centre of town. Bets known for the fish, this is a quiet whole in the wall type of place that I love everything I visit Google Maps

Costaneira Restaurante This is a local favourite resturant and the mackerel is a sell out at every lunch. This is a simple local place, don't come expecting high end decor, but do expect some fresh fish Google Maps

Casa de Pasto - o Amaral This is a place all about fish. And that is just perfect for a place such as this. Enjoy! Google Maps


Vegetarian / Vegan

Rotas If you want vegetarian or vegan food this is the place to go on São Miguel. Located in the center of town, and a firm favourite. Great food and service. Booking in advance is a must Google Maps

Treze This is a lovely vegetarian cafe, the best in Ponta Delgada. Friendly service and a central location (great for people watching) make this a firm lunch favourite Google Maps
